Write the argument.
The margin argues back.

Manthan is a Mac editor for essays and arguments. When you pause, the margin asks the question you were avoiding, argues the other side, and quotes your own research. It never writes a word you did not ask for.

How it works

Judgment first. Generation last.

Most AI writing tools start by writing. Manthan starts by thinking with you, and keeps the words yours.

When you pause

It speaks when you stall, not before.

Stop mid-thought for eight seconds and one card appears beside the line you stopped on: a question, a direction, and the objection a sharp reader would raise. Keep typing and it steps back. Press esc and it is gone.

Your research

It quotes you, not the internet.

Point Manthan at the folders you already keep. The margin quotes your interviews and notes, and labels every line: your source, your note, or model knowledge. No sources yet? It still speaks, and says where its words come from.

⌘↵

It checks a sentence when you ask.

Finish a claim and press ⌘↵. Facts are checked against your sources, style against the writers you admire. A conflict is underlined, explained in one line, and one key away from the exact passage.

⌘/

It writes only when you pull.

Know the move but not the words? Press ⌘/ and ask. The draft appears as ghost text in your line. Take it with ↵, a word at a time with ⌘→, or leave it with esc. Nothing lands on the page without your keystroke.

Principles

Four promises the margin keeps.

  • It never writes unbidden.

Words enter your piece only on your keystroke. Everything else stays in the margin.

  • It never passes a guess off as a source.

Every line is labelled: your source, your note, or model knowledge.

  • Your writing stays yours.

Pieces are plain .md files on your Mac. Only the passage in play goes to the model.

  • It earns every interruption.

Mute is one key. If you need it for two weeks, the margin has failed, and we redesign it.

FAQ

Questions writers ask first.

What leaves my Mac?
Only the passage you are on and the source lines needed to answer it, sent to the model to answer it. Your pieces, sources and scratch stay on disk.
Do I need sources?
No. With none attached, the margin answers from model knowledge and labels it that way. Sources make it sharper and let it check facts.
Will it write my essay?
Only the sentence you ask for with ⌘/, and only if you take it. Manthan is built to argue with you, not to write for you.
What does it cost?
Manthan is free during the preview. Pricing arrives with the public release.
Which model does the margin use?
A fast model picked for sub-second answers. There is nothing to configure.
Windows? iPad?
Mac first. Join the waitlist and tell us what you write on.
Where do my pieces live?
In a folder you choose, as plain Markdown files. Open them in any editor, sync them however you like.
Is it open source?
Source available under FSL-1.1-ALv2. Read every line on GitHub.
